St. Alphonsa Church

Valiyakolli is a place located in Kodanchery Panchayat of Kozhikode district, between Kodanchery, Manjuyal and Pullurampara parishes. If you travel about 2 km from Pulikayam on the Kodanchery-Pulurampara road, you can reach V. Alphonsa Devi Laya, just before Valiyakolli Market. The Rev. Kuriakose Chemplani Yachan, who was the Vicar of Kodanchery Forona during the years 1983-1988, purchased one acre of land from Chethippuzha James for the Valiyakolli Church. Later, the Vicar Rev. Joseph Aranjaniputhan Purayachan started the construction of the church at Valiyakolli.

On July 3, 1988, the shed was built and Fr. Joseph Aranjani Puthanpura offered the Holy Mass. The tireless efforts of the Venerable Father were instrumental in the construction of the church. The Venerable Father completed the church work by collecting money from the Kodenchery parish and outside. On February 24, 1991, Reverend Mar Sebastian Mankuzhikkari, the father, performed the blessing of the church. Venerable Joseph Aranjani Puthanpura along with the Venerable Father Jose Thekekkarottachan also worked. During 1992-1995, Fr. Augustine Thuruthimattom, the vicar of Kodanchery Forona Church, purchased two and a half acres of land for the church. In 1995, the Diocesan Administrator, Mon. Francis, elevated Aru Para Valiyakolli to a parish. On 22 January 1995, Rev. Abraham Pulinju Vattilachan became the first vicar of the parish. When Rev. Achan resigned from the post of vicar on 17 June 1995 to pursue higher studies, Rev. Thomas Kalapurayachan was appointed to take over the reins of the parish. It was during Rev. Achan's time that the building was used as a Sunday school. The parish hall was built by Rev. John Pazhukunnelachan. Rev. Kalapurayachan rendered commendable service to the parish until 2nd May 1998. Rev. Johnson Pazhukunnelachan provided spiritual leadership to the parish until the arrival of Rev. Sebastian Vellaramkunnelachan of the MSFS Sannyasa community as the new vicar on 04-06-1998. Rev. Sebastianachan also made comprehensive contributions to the spiritual upliftment of Valiyakolli parish. He served in the parish until May 20, 2001. Then, for a year, Joseph Adipuzhachan became the spiritual guardian of the parish. On 19-05-2002, Fr. Joseph Kalakkuzhi became the vicar of Valiyakolli parish. The leadership of the priest with a different outlook and lifestyle was a new experience for the parishioners. The priest's temple in the parish is the result of the tireless efforts of Rev. Kalakkuzhichan. On May 15, 2005, Fr. Joseph Koonanikkal took over as the parish vicar. The new altar of the parish church was installed during the time of Rev. Father has been transferred to Pasukadavu Parish as a vicar. 25-01-2009 Paul is engaged in the pastoral ministry of Puthanpura Parish. The Rev. Father has beautified the nave and interior of the church. The Rev. Father also spends his days in ministry, always interested in the spiritual growth of the parishioners.
